In this episode of the Average JOES Podcast, we have a conversation with Johannes "Kobus" Appelgrijn.  Kobus talks about growing up in South Africa, serving as a pastor for 35 years, and his second career as the Executive Director of West Pasco Habitat for Humanity and a coach for pastors.  Kobus talks about Sunday evening services being the evangelistic meetings.
Kobus also discusses that many pastors believe they need to project the perfect image, which is nothing more than the "Holy Man Myth."  He says the pastorate can be very lonely and very difficult for the pastor's wife and children.

In this third episode of the Average JOES Podcast,  we have a conversation with Carl Ellison who is the Lead Pastor at First Baptist Church of New Tampa.  Carl talks about his family, his relationship with Jesus Christ, and how God has given him an unquenchable desire for God's Word.  In the midst of the conversation, Carl discuses Howard Hendrick's book, "Iron Sharpens Iron," as well as, Mark MacDonald's book, "Be Known For Something."
Carl tells the story of how he came to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and remembering at 4 years of age, watching Billy Graham on television, and the Holy Spirit convicting his 4 year old heart.  Carl explains that he wandered away from his Savior as a teenager, and how God used some difficult circumstances in his life to draw him back.
Carl talks about living with a "framework of Christianity" for many years without transformation, and how three life-changing events occurred on the same day to bring Carl to a point of total surrender.

Ben Ellis is the Small Groups Pastor at Northcliffe Baptist Church in Spring Hill, Florida.  He graduated from Southeastern Southern Baptist Seminary in North Carolina.
In this episode, Ben discuses how he walked an aisle at age 7, but did not really have a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ until his late teens.  Ben discusses whether children should be baptized at an early age.  Ben loves to help others experience a real, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.  Ben talks about how the wall between the Church and the world has been broken down - which is both good and bad.
Best book he has ever read (aside from the Bible) - The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis.

Ben Ellis: "The one trait that every disciple of Jesus Christ must possess is humility.  The one trait that I have seen derail more Christians than any other is complacency."
